The tugboat Katahdin (pronounced Kuh-Ta-Din:  an Indian name for the highest point in the State of Maine, was built in 1899 by Martin Hansen on the Duwamish River in Seattle.  The “Kat,” originally a compound steam tug, was purchased by me in 1994 after I discovered her sitting derelict on Orcas Island, mired in a divorce and lawsuits.  I paid $10,000 for her “as is, where is” and rolled up my sleeves for a 25 year odyssey that involved more than bending wood and painting…..
